    Pragyã Gatibidhi 10.2 (December 2004/ Poush 2061)

    October 19, 2004 (Kartik 3, 2061): Addressing a special function held in honour of the various newly appointed members of the Academy Assembly and the Academy Council, Chancellor of Royal Nepal Academy and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba said that the government was ever committed to respect, support and promote the academia.

    The Pro-Chancellor of Royal Nepal Academy and Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Deepak Kumar Upadhyaya congratulated the newly appointed members of the Academy Assembly and the Academy Council and said that the government was ever committed to adding new dimensions to the academic field.

    Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Basudev Tripathi, Member-Secetary Geeta Keshari, Life-Member Poet Lauret Madhav Prasad Ghimire, Janakavi Keshari Dharma Raj Thapa, Culture Specialist Satya Mohan Joshi and Professor Dr. Ram Niwas Pandey also addressed the function and wished everyone present a Happy Vijaya Dashami.

    November 11, 2004 (Kartik 26, 2061): Royal Nepal Academy organised a function to commemorate the 95th. Birth Anniversary of Mahakavi Laxmi Prasad Devkota. Speaking on the occasion, Professor Dr. Basudev Tripathi said that Royal Nepal Academy, the national centre of academic consciousness, would continue honouring writers and academicians.

    Various people read out or recited Mahakavi Devkota's poems including "Bhailo Geet" and selections from Muna Madan.

    Who's Who of Nepali Artists and Writers: Royal Nepal Academy is working on a who's who of Nepali Artists and writers that will include a list of about one thousand names. All writers and artists who will be included in this index have been requested to send their biodata along with a passport size photo to the Academy. Everyone involved with the national language and other languages and literatures of Nepal,with arts and crafts, with drama and theatre, and with culture and social sciences will be included.

    The editorial board of this who's who comprises of Jeevendra Giri, Bhaupanthi, Bhuwan Dhungana and Jagaman Gurung.

    International Academic Relations Development Committee: To strengthen the relationship between Royal Nepal Academy and foreign academic organisations, an International Academic Relations Development Committee has been formed under the chairmanship of Professor Dr. Basu Dev Tripathi.

    Members of this committee include academician Bhuwan Dhungana, academician Yadav Kharel, Professor Dr. Jayaraj Acharya, Professor Dr. Padma Devkota, Mr. Dilliraj Upreti, Professor Kedarbhakta Mathema and the campus chief of the Campus of International Languages, Dr Baladev Aryal.

    December 2-9, 2004 (Mangsir 17-24, 2061): Sahityk Patrakar Sangh organised a poetry-tour for thirteen poets, writers and journalists to different parts of the country with the two-fold aim of encouraging writers to explore their own country and of promoting interaction with other writers based outside the capital.

    Addressing a poetry symposium in Biratnagar as its Chief Guest, academician Bhuwan Dhungana said that Royal Nepal Academy was planning to open local branches to promote its literary and cultural activities.

    A procession in downtown Ilam was held in honour of the touring group of writers and journalists. A literary function was then held in the precinct of Mahendra Ratna Multiple Campus.

    From Ilam the group proceeded to Fickle where Nabodita Youth club organised a poetry symposium. Thence, the group went to Darjeeling before returning to Kathmandu on Mangisir 24, 2061.

    On the way back home, the group stopped at Narayanghat where Synergy FM orgnised a function to honour these poets, writers and journalists.

    Involvement of Vice-Chancellor of Royal Nepal Academy Professor Dr. Basudev Tripathi in various literary functions:

    • November 12, 2004 (Kartik 27, 2061): Unveiled the statue of Mahakavi Laxmi Prasad Devkota in Damak, Jhapa. The statue was jointly established by Pratibha Niketan and Sahitya Kala Sangam, Damak. Professor Tripathi also released Niyatra Biseshanka, a special issue of Sahitya Kala Sangam's publication, Dakshya Raj Sharma's Kehi Shrasta Samikshyan, and Dr. Tulasi Bhattarai's Nepali Kranti Katha.
    • November 30-December 2, 2004 (Mangsir 15-17, 2061): Commented on various papers presented in the Second World Buddhist Peak Conference organised in Lumbani by Lumbini Development Fund.
    • December 9, 2004 (Mangsir 24, 2061): Inaugurated school children's painting exhibition organised by Professional Women Helpers Group of Transparency International, Nepal.
    • Inaugurated a painting and sculptor exhibition organised by Siddhartha Art Gallery.
    • December 23, 2004 (Poush 9, 2061): Released Laya Mainali's book titled Medium, Technique, Style and Elements of Statues.
    • Awarded the Bala Narasimha Subarna Kumari Adhikary literary prize to litterateur Vishwoprem Adhikary of Syangja. Speaking on the occasion, Professor Tripathi suggested that the local municipal administration set aside a small budget to promote language, literature, culture, art and songs as these form the identity of a nation and their preservation, promotion and study is of national significance.
